Welcome to Umfolozi TVET College

Gold trophies for the College

uMfolozi TVET College prides itself for scoring two gold trophies and a silver one during the National Skills Fund Awards at the George Hotel in Pretoria on Thursday, 23 March 2017.

The gold trophies were for the best artisan development programme spearheaded by College Project Coordinator, Sifiso Magwaza and best skills programme for PPOP programme while the silver trophy was for the best placement programme for the NC (V) Plant Process and Operations students both spearhead by Project Coordinator Tharif Haniff.

The College marketing team spoke to the man who worked hard for the College to receive the best artisan development programme award, Sifiso Magwaza who was speechless after receiving this award. “I wrote to the National Skills Authority with little hope that the College would be nominated for this award. Sometimes you work hard not knowing that you will be awarded for your hard work, so it’s motivating and now I know that when you are passionate about your work ,you are bound to reap the rewards of hard work.”

“The unique programme which uses a military style of learning, involves gym and long walks was held in partnership with the Department of Social Development in Vuma Farm and eScabazini where students are trained in electrical, plumbing, construction, hospitality, entrepreneurship and business management. The aim for up skilling these students is for them to become entrepreneurs or to alternatively apply for a trade test and become artisans after completing. Some of them were absorbed by the College to do full time courses, while some, were placed in Durban through SIMTECH for practicals,”explained Magwaza who also thanked the Deputy Principal, Mrs Elsie Du Toit for her support and inspiring him to write to NSA.

“I hereby wish to thank our projects team and also management and the Campuses and Industry for your wonderful support.  To the whole projects team, let us keep up the good work and create more opportunities for our students.  I am so proud of you, ”said Du Toit. The College also received two awards from Chieta last year in November:

  • Best Placement Programme for artisan development  – Artisan development with Training at Mandeni – Project co-ordinator: Ram Makardood
  • Best Project Management: - Project co-ordinator: Ram Makardood and his team
