Alton Campus gears up for World Skills Day

Two female students from Alton Campus have been selected to represent the College at the World Skills Competition. The Provincial Competition will be hosted by Alton Campus in August.

According to Alton Campus Welding Trainer, Leon Snyman, the competition will include KZN Public and Private Colleges and the contestants must not be over the age of 22 years.  “This is one of the biggest events that will happen at the College which will put College on the map. We’re confident that our students will make it to the final round of this international competition,” said Snyman.

Andile Nkonyeni and Minenhle Khambule who are both first year welding students, are eager to represent the College at this competition. Nkonyeni said she was both excited and scared about the competition and also privileged to be part of it.  Khambule said she was ecstatic about the opportunity and said she will definitely make the College proud.

World Skills aims to equip the youth with tools and resources they need to build a future and to be a place and platform for celebrating world class excellence in skills by showcasing the next generation of skills talent. It also aims to explain the motivational and educational benefit of competitions by showcasing how they build the participants’ character, confidence, commitment and self-esteem. It also offers companies, industries and trades a chance to meet and recruit skilled people who have demonstrated that they are ‘top of their game’. The Competition is held every 2 years and is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world that truly reflects global industry.
