Nkosinathi Praise-God Myeni, known by his stage name Cargo, is a hip-hop artist and Farming Management student who uses his music to raise awareness against gender-based violence. Last year, during a cyberbullying event at Bambanani Campus, he caught the Marketing team’s attention with his powerful performance of “Abesfazane.” This 23-year-old rapper, with his vision, clever rhymes, and confident, thoughtful delivery, infuses his lyrics with refreshing and impactful messages. “I hope that my music will touch people’s lives and that they will listen and respect the message,” Cargo expresses.
Born in Mondlo, Vryheid, Cargo moved to Msiyane in Ingwavuma after his grandmother’s passing to live with his father’s family. He grew up enjoying chess but discovered his love for music in high school. His rap style draws inspiration from artists like K.O, A Reece, and Lil Wayne. In 2018, he released “The Best,” a single about being created perfect in God’s image.
In an interview, Cargo shared that the high rate of violence against women and children inspired him to write “Abesfazane,” aiming to raise awareness about this issue in South Africa. He followed up with another single, “Work,” which talks about the struggles of growing up without getting everything he wanted and how that motivated him to work hard. He hopes to inspire others with this message, emphasizing that achieving one’s goals requires effort.
As a student at Bambanani Campus, Cargo is determined to excel in both his studies and music career. He appreciates Farming Management for its blend of agriculture and business aspects. His future plans include completing his diploma, using that knowledge to benefit his community, and pursuing a degree in Agriculture.
On weekends, Cargo performs in local restaurants around Ingwavuma. His music can be found on streaming platforms Audiomarc and SoundCloud under the name Cargo-Dope-Tee.
