



The South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI) hosted a business breakfast in collaboration with uMfolozi College at Esikhawini on 2 September.
Mr Odwa Mtati (Chief Executive Officer SAIMI) emphasized that there isn’t a single pathway for a fruitful career in Maritime and urged uMfolozi to integrated various engineering disciplines linked to the Maritime sector. In order to bridge the gap in the much needed skills in the Marine sector which can contribute to the College strategy towards unlocking occupational programs.
“Government is not going to do everything for you. We came as a show of our commitment to build Maritime in Colleges. This partnership is to kick-start their careers their careers at sea and offer education and training to meet international standards, reviving the Maritime industry. We are already running a
UMfolozi TVET College Acting Principal, Elsie du Toit said such partnerships are important for students to receive work placement and compete with the best in the world. “Our students do theory in class and need training on a vessel at sea to complete their qualification,” explained du Toit.
