Growing up in uMhlabuyalingana, Senzo Ndlovu was always a child with an inquisitive mind set wondering, “what makes something work?”. What began as a childhood habit of exploring and deconstructing objects, evolved in to a pattern that steered him in to Mechanical Engineering.
Between the year 2022 and 2023, Ndlovu dedicated himself to his studies at uMfolozi TVET College, working his way through his Mechanical Engineering N3 to N6. For him, it wasn’t just about the theory; he loved seeing how those classroom lessons actually played out in the real world and was always keen to learn about things he hadn’t seen before. The hard work paid off quickly.
What started as an internship at RBCT in early March 2024 has already turned into a permanent position as maintenance assistant in 2026. These days, you’ll find him right in the thick of it—working alongside Millwrights, jumping on maintenance calls and getting his hands dirty with the stripping and maintenance of parts. He doesn’t look to famous icons for inspiration; instead, he’s motivated by the people he works with every day, especially those who have already reached the goals he’s aiming for.
Ndlovu isn’t done yet, he’s already planning his next move. Once his Mechanical Engineering logbook is all wrapped up, he will return to uMfolozi to study Electrical Engineering. His big dream is to become a dual-qualified Millwright and reach the absolute “peak of artisanship”.
When questioned about advice for new comers in the field, Ndlovu keeps it real: “Push. Be consistent and work hard enough to prove your potential. Never stop applying yourself.”
